Skiing & snowboarding

It’s hard to imagine Alta Badia without ski and snowboard slopes. There are, indeed, lots of them, of any difficulty level, extending to the total of 130 km. All slopes are perfectly groomed and well connected. Most of them are equipped with a cutting-edge artificial snowmaking system. On Wednesdays, the illuminated slope Doninz invites you for night skiing sessions. Feel free to enjoy this splendid ski carousel to the maximum, setting off from Sportony Mountain Lodges with your skis already on. To master some tricks head towards the Snowpark Alta Badia, equipped with boardercross, rails and various kickers. For thrilling backcountry descents, choose the legendary Val Mezdì. Lots of exciting itineraries for ski mountaineering are waiting for you as well.

Besides Alpine skiing…

Many (if not everybody) associate Alta Badia only with Alpine skiing and snowboarding. Yet there are lots of other attractions as well. For example, the Cross Country Ski Centre Alta Badia with 26 km of trails for Nordic skiing at the foot of the imposing mounts Lavarella, Conturines and Settsass, next to the village of San Cassiano. Some other activities worth trying are snowshoeing and fat bike tours through the untouched Alpine scenery, organized by various ski schools. Otherwise, have a great time with tobogganing, horse-drawn sleigh rides and relaxing walks along the groomed trails, where the destination has absolutely no importance.

Across the Dolomiti Superski

The same context, the Dolomites, but the perspective and the dimensions change a lot. Alta Badia is not just a marvellous independent ski carousel, but a part of the immense Dolomiti Superski area, composed of 12 zones, all of which are accessible with the same ski pass. Benefit from the strategic location of Alta Badia to explore the other parts of the Dolomiti Superski along spectacular ski circuits. The most renowned is the splendid Sellaronda that leads around the Sella Group passing through the Val Gardena, the Val di Fassa, Arabba and Alta Badia (available in clockwise and counter-clockwise directions). But there are many other itineraries as well, like, for example, the First World War Tour (that leads from Alta Badia towards the ski areas of Arabba, Civetta and Cortina d’Ampezzo), the Tour of Lagazuoi and the Tour of Marmolada. A free ski bus connects Alta Badia with the Kronplatz ski resort.

Down days

In any vacation there might happen a couple of days when you have no wish to put your skis on, whether because of tiredness, due to bad weather conditions or just wanting to try something else. No problem, benefit from these breaks, either voluntary or involuntary, to visit one the South Tyrolean towns, where you can easily combine pleasant walks in the historic centre with a cultural program or shopping. The nearest one, Bruneck/Brunico, is located at the distance of 30 km, Brixen/Bressanone is 60 km away, while Bozen/Bolzano can be reach in less than 2 hours. From early December till the beginning of January, catch the opportunity to immerge yourselves into the enchanted atmosphere of Christmas markets (in Alta Badia you will find them in San Cassiano and Corvara). Visiting a museum is also exciting if you choose one of the following: Ursus Ladinicus in San Cassiano (geology), Ciastel de Tor in San Martino (Ladin culture and identity), Messner Mountain Museum at Kronplatz (alpinism) e the South Tyrolean Folklore Museum in Dietenheim. Otherwise, go skating to the ice rink of Corvara, go swimming in La Villa, Riscone (Cron4) or Brixen (Acquarena), go climbing indoor walls in San Cassiano or Bruneck and these are only some of the numerous tips. Don’t hesitate to ask us for advice.
